Q: How do I register a player?
Registration for all Kai Zen programs is available online using a credit card. Registration will require establishing an online account and there is a small non-refundable processing fee attached to each program registration.
Q: Age limits for Kai Zen Programs?
A: Due to NCAA recruiting rules we are not permitted to make exceptions to the enrollment requirements. The overnight camp has an age limit of 12 and older for overnight participation. In accordance with NCAA guidelines, all Kai Zen Camps and Clinics are open to any and all entrants, limited only by specified number, age, grade level and/or gender of its participants.
Q: Do camps offer any scholarships or discounts?
A: NCAA recruiting rules prohibit us from offering scholarships or other financial aid to campers. Our overnight camp does offer a TEAM DISCOUNT of $20 with teams registering 10 or more players.
Q: Is payment due in full at the time of registration?
A: Most programs will require payment in full at the time of registration. Registration for OVERNIGHT camp can be done with a Non-refundable deposit of $100 – payment of the OVERNIGHT fee balance must be paid 10 days prior to camp online, otherwise, balance payment must be paid with a certified check or cash.
Q: When does registration close for each camp?
A: Registration is open until a camp fills. All registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis. Please register early – out programs do fill up.
Q: How soon should I receive confirmation of my enrollment?
A: After registering for all Kai Zen Programs you will receive an email confirmation immediately after you check out of the registration system. PLEASE note with is our primary method of communication with campers and their parent(s)/guardian(s). PLEASE provide an email that is checked regularly. Final information on our programs is also sent to the listed email address. PLUS we will post final information on our programs on our website.
Q: What if my child needs to leave overnight camp early?
A: If your child needs to leave camp early for any reason, make sure that the CAMP Director – Wendy Stark 800-783-6594 is notified. For the safety of each player, all appropriate steps will be taken to ensure that we release a camper only to an authorized individual. The camper must return the room key and access/meal card before departing. The parent/legal guardian signing the camper out must sign the Early Departure Form confirming early departure.
Q: Who are the coaches?
A: Programs are run by the Syracuse Field Hockey staff. In addition to the SU staff - other coaches consist of college and high school coaches and current/former Syracuse field hockey student-athletes and other college athletes who have knowledge and skills relevant to the specific sport. Documented official background checks are run by Syracuse University on camp coaches.
Q: How many campers stay in one room for OVERNIGHT camp and what location is used for OVERNIGHT camp?
A: We only have access to "double" rooms, which allows for two persons per room. All groups or teams will be housed next to each other. The dorms are not air-conditioned. We will not know the location of our residence until 60 days before camp. All campers are housed in SU residence halls and transported to the instruction/playing field via bus or van.
Q: Can I request a roommate?
A: Yes - Resident campers can indicate one roommate preference on the online registration form. Listing a roommate preference does not guarantee enrollment of the roommate in the camp. We will do our best to fulfill roommate requests; however, we cannot guarantee those requests. If a preference is not indicated, a roommate will be assigned.
Q: What type of supervision do you provide? Are campers supervised at all times?
A: Safety is our first priority - Attendance is taken at the beginning of each session and at bed check time. Camp directors assign camp staff personnel to actively and directly supervise campers. Even when there is no formal instruction taking place, campers are briefed thoroughly to know where to go and who to see should they need assistance. Residence halls are monitored 24/7 and campers must use an access card to enter the halls.
Q: If I drive to camp where do I park my car?
A: If campers drive to camp they will be required to park their car at Manley field house location. WE DO NOT allow campers to use their car during camp – THEY must turn their keys into the Camp Director at registration and keys will be returned at the end of camp.
Q: What should my camper bring to camp?
A: A list of recommended equipment will be listed in FINAL information.
Q: When and where do I drop off my camper on the first day of camp?
A: The final registration information with the drop - off and pick-up instructions, tentative daily schedule and location will be provided in FINAL information.
Q: Is there a backup plan to camp should bad weather arise?
A: Kai Zen Sports and Syracuse University place the highest emphasis on the safety of our participants and staff. When there is lightening in the area, all outside activity will be suspended until the threatening weather leaves the area. When these situations arise, alternate programming will be offered. Refunds will not be given in instances in which weather circumstances require alternate programming. Thank you for your understanding.
Q: Is an athletic trainer available for the campers?
A: Yes, an ATHLETIC TRAINER will be on twenty-four-hour call. The trainer will be on-site and housed in the residence hall area to provide medical care as required.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: Our refund policy is $100 Nonrefundable deposit (deposit is refunded ONLY with a documented medical reason provided in written form from a PHYSICIAN) required during registration. We will refund the remaining balance if the OVERNIGHT camp is paid in full. No refunds after our programs have started.
